ScheduleInstructions

In a world where hearts and souls are joined through computers and the internet, the perfect venue is chatting live with others who share the same things, in this case, having Sjogren's syndrome, knowing someone who has it or if you are just interested in finding out more about it.

Although the chat room is open all the time, we only guarantee to have hosts in the room on the schedule below (barring unforeseen illness or emergency).

If you wish to be reminded via e-mail when a chat is scheduled or about special or topic chats click here. Everyone, especially AOL and Compuserve users, please read the instructions following the schedule.

* Hosted chats listed above, other times, just drop in.

* Instructions: (if you are running a firewall, you may need to disable it for chat)

Don't give away personal information on-line! Always Check with your physician before making changes or trying new treatments. Never trust someone on blind-faith; always do research, check with your physician and stay informed.

Repeat users just click here. (remember, scheduled times guarantee a host, other times, drop in, stay awhile and see if someone shows up to chat!)

When you click the link to the chat page, a popup window will appear named "Security Warning", asking you to install jIRC applet. Click Yes to allow the applet to install. If you click no or close that window without doing anything, the chat will not load and you will be unable to participate in the chat.

The Chat log on screen will now appear in your browser window (see below). You only need to Type in a nick name where it says Guest. Suggestion: Pick something very unique or add some number to the end of your nickname. There are thousands of users on the DALnet servers so you will need to pick a very unique Nickname.  Don't worry, we have our room "hidden" from the main list of rooms so we are not at all likely to have people in here who are not interested in Sjogren's.

You do not need to use a password unless you have your nickname registered at DALnet. You can ignore this line.

Where is says Real Name, you may optionally type in a real name for yourself.

Click the "Connect Now!" button. You will be transported to the DALnet Chat server and directly into our Chat Room, SjSWorld. Please be patient, as it takes a little time to make the connection.

Now, have some fun! You type into the bottom slot. On the right of that slot you can change the font to bold or change the color of your typing (font). At the top are some dropdown choices to perform an action, play a sound or add a smilie. Enjoy!

When you are leaving chat, simply click the disconnect button at the lower right.

If you would like to use a full featured chat program, we recommend mIRC, a shareware program and here are the instructions for mIRC for our chat. It does nag you to pay the fee of $20.00 if you like and continue to use it. There is a free IRC program called WiRC and here are the set up instructions for WiRC.

If you wish to be notified via e-mail when there is a chat scheduled and it's topic, please go here.

AOL and Compuserve Users!

If you use Compuserve or AOL, the built in browser may not let you log in, so you need to open another browser. Follow these steps:

  1. Log on to the internet as usual.
  2. Leaving your connection on, open Internet Explorer (IE, the blue E on the taskbar or on your desktop) or Netscape Navigator, in a separate window.
  3. Copy and paste this URL into the address line and press the enter key (or Go).
    /jpilot/
  4. Now you will be able to log in to the chatroom. Save it as a "Favorite" (IE) or "Bookmark" (Navigator) so next time you can use that instead of having to copy the address.

Read transcripts of previous chats!

NOTE: These past transcripts are provided to help SjSer's, their family, and friends understand the day-to-day trials and tribulations of living with Sjögren's Syndrome. In order to maintain privacy of our members and allow them to come to chat and speak freely, we will no longer post transcripts on the internet, with the exception of these past ones, which are included to give you a sense of what it is like to live with Sjögren's Syndrome, and/or what it is like to attend live chats.

The transcripts included in this library have been edited of greetings, salutations and conversation that does not pertain to the topic. The dialogue you will be reading is unedited and presented just as it was typed by the individuals present. The transcripts selected are topic oriented and hopefully helpful to those who read them.
